Diwas Lama Tamang • Reproducing Movements
My name is Diwas Lama Tamang. I was born and brought up in a Buddhist family. I’m a first generation Christian and have had to pay a lot for it. Christ is the biggest reality and I cannot imagine where I would be if I had not come to Christ.
I was leading a church and my entire focus was to grow. When I came to the first NewThing meeting in Delhi, India, I was challenged to see beyond my one church priority. In the dream session, I wrote that my dream was to see a hundred churches in the Northeast part of India.
At first, I failed, but we ended up having 10 cornerstone churches after a year. As the year passed, I attended a NewThing Catalyst, my vision got enlarged, and now I was able to see beyond my congregation. I developed a Kingdom mindset, and thus considered other casts and people groups as an opportunity to serve and share Jesus.
As of September 2022, we have been seeing great fruit. We are engaged in Gospel preaching and training in Nepal (Katmandu/Porikha/Jhapa/Galgaliya/Illam). We were also able to have growth in Bihar (which was known as the graveyard of missionaries).
Not only that, but we were able to graduate 60 ministry students within one year with 45 still studying in Bihar. There have been many amazing gospel stories of faith through these ministry students and pastors. Because of this, we were able to see many more house churches.
Today, we are present in 9 districts of India with 85 churches, 42 sub districts, 71 villages, 22 active multipliers and 7 streams of Networks. Every two months, we train about 800 leaders, share the gospel with at least 11,000 people, and see about 150 baptisms.
None of this would be possible if there was no dream. I’m still chasing the goal of 100 house churches, but as I am chasing that dream, my multipliers have started to dream God-sized dreams as well.
Our NEW dream is to see 1,000 house churches not only in the Northeast part of India but in the whole of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and China. We call this collaborative movement, Ignite.
