Paul’s words from Ephesians 3:20 comes to mind when I think about how God used NewThing in 2022! NewThing is a community that knows how to dream big and trains church leaders to dream God-sized dreams; but this past year God did even more than we could ask or imagine! As you read through the 2022 NewThing Annual Report you will see that we were able to start and sustain 1696 church planting networks; and help plant 8850 new churches - both are far more than ever before! And that causes me to respond as Paul did in the next verse, “to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus…” (Ephesians 3:21).

In 2018, God called me and my family to plant a new church. The idea was clear: a space in which people could find Christ. We believed in a big church, like those that appear in magazines. We started with 7 people, and just one month before our planned launch for Easter 2020, the Mexican government announced the indefinite closure of all public spaces because of Covid-19. It was a critical moment. I was like a baby whose time has not yet come, but must be born or die. Canceling the launch was the only option we had. This was a hard blow for us, because no matter the size of the building, none could be used in the next two years. There we were, without a building, without a strategy, and in survival mode.

My name is Diwas Lama Tamang. I was born and brought up in a Buddhist family. I’m a first generation Christian and have had to pay a lot for it. Christ is the biggest reality and I cannot imagine where I would be if I had not come to Christ.
I was leading a church and my entire focus was to grow. When I came to the first NewThing meeting in Delhi, India, I was challenged to see beyond my one church priority. In the dream session, I wrote that my dream was to see a hundred churches in the Northeast part of India.

In 2022 we kicked off our Go Together initiative to invite churches, donors and friends to partner with us in order to raise $4M for these three strategic investments:
Start 5,000 new networks that would prayerfully launch 25,000 new churches
Double our global footprint from 40 to 80 pivot nations
Increase the impact of our indegenous teams into all 9 global regions
